William and his team are working at the forefront of smart grid technology. In partnership with utilities, automakers, and charger manufactures, ev.energy’s software platform is connecting the EV ecosystem and delivering a world class managed charging service to over 150,000 electric vehicle drivers.
After winning the UK’s first contract to deliver commercial grid services using electric vehicles, ev.energy’s Virtual Power Plant (VPP) is now operating in 5 countries across North America and Europe and has been dispatched over 4,000 times. William is program director of ChargeWise California, ev.energy’s state-wide VPP program that was recently awarded >$40m in funding from the California Energy Commission. The aim of the program is to deploy ev.energy’s software at scale by integrating 300,000 EVs with the energy grid in California over the next 4 years.
Earlier this year, William joined the UK Government’s Global Expert Mission to California, published a white paper on unlocking barriers to V2X energy flexibility and is a regular speaker on industry panels helping to shape the future of electric vehicle charging.
Prior to ev.energy, William spent 6 years with National Grid, working across Grid Services Development, Corporate Strategy, and the National Electricity Control Center. He holds an MEng in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southampton, including an exchange scholarship to the Chinese University of Hong Kong and was the winner of the Emerging Leader Impact Award.
