Can’t We All Just Get Along? Finding Common Ground at GLOBE Forum 2018

We are living in very interesting times…

It seems like every time we turn on the TV, livestream the news or pick up a newspaper, we’re bombarded with headlines about the inability of people, political parties and countries to agree on fundamental issues. Some examples? Individual rights and freedoms. Free trade agreements. Energy systems. Embracing new opportunities in the clean economy versus maintaining the traditional one.

But when you look around in your community, your country and beyond, there are so many positive stories of people working together to solve problems and make the world a better place:

  • Canadian and international students working together with Indigenous communities to provide new business opportunities and fresh food for remote communities
  • Farmers, bankers and technology companies creating economically sound, clean and renewable energy for their communities
  • People of all different faiths coming together to help one another and stand up against hatred and racism

And this is just the tip of the iceberg.

At the same time, technological breakthroughs are happening weekly, while digitization and artificial intelligence are on the brink of transforming our lives.  These are just part of a series of economic, social and environmental drivers that are having an increasing influence on our daily lives. It feels like the end of an era and the beginning of a new one.  An era in which, together, we need to tap into the deepest wells of human ingenuity to survive and thrive.

It has never been more important to join forces and collaborate across our communities, sectors and regions on the unique and complex challenges and opportunities of the 21st century. So, I’d like to invite you to join me, and civil society, public- and private-sector leaders from around the world at GLOBE Forum 2018, from March 14-16 in Vancouver, Canada. We’ll have honest and productive dialogue about our future. We won’t come up with all the answers, but we will move the dial on building a clean and prosperous future.

We Need to Forge a Path to a Clean and Prosperous Future…Together

“The ability to imagine and generate new ideas with speed and to implement them through global collaboration is the most important competitive advantage.”Thomas Friedman, Pulitzer-Prize winning author and journalist

GLOBE Forum 2018 will convene the world’s best and brightest thinkers and doers to learn from each other, partner on new and innovative solutions, and to capitalize on the clean economy. Over the last 20+ years, we’ve brought together over 170,000 participants from 97 countries to advance the sustainability agenda. I can promise you that GLOBE Forum 2018 will be the most exciting and unmissable yet.

We will play host to our renowned blue-chip crowd of senior-level policymakers, Fortune 500 CEOs, the finance community, global technology providers, sustainability practitioners, ENGOs, and First Nations.

So what’s new?

For starters, the conference program is shifting towards action and results. With more engaging and interactive formats than ever before, GLOBE Forum 2018 will be all about how to disrupt business as usual:

  • How do we achieve the clean economy today, not tomorrow?
  • How can your organization’s successes be expanded across your industry and beyond?
  • How do we link investment to innovation, and avoid stranded assets in the transition?
  • How do we turn supply chains into circles?
  • How do we build resilience through partnerships?
  • How do we determine the impact of data, analytical capacity, artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things on our communities, businesses, infrastructure, etc., and on our ability to build a sustainable future?

GLOBE Forum 2018 will also reflect and elevate the thoughts and actions of our leaders of tomorrow.  We’re looking forward to updating you on the exciting programming being developed by our Emerging Leaders group.

And There’s More…GLOBE Forum is Not Just a Conference

We’re a trade show. For the very first time, our Innovation Expo will showcase six cleantech clusters – Sustainable Mobility and Advanced Materials & Manufacturing, to name just two. The global cleantech sector is currently worth C$1.15 trillion and is expected to grow at a rate of 3% annually. The services we offer our exhibitors are focused entirely on driving deals and transactions, and the 2018 Expo format will shine a light on Canadian capacity in key sectors to buyers from more than 50 countries.

GLOBE Forum and the Innovation Expo anchor GLOBE Week, which is chock full of meetings, side and social events held by a diverse range of organizations and groups. There really is something for everyone, and a massive opportunity for people to grow their networks and get involved in the clean economy.
