Three Events to Transform our Greatest Challenge into an Unparalleled Opportunity

From Canada to the European Union, multinational corporations to mom-and-pop shops, a commitment to net-zero emissions by 2050 is uniting the world.

Achieving this goal will not only help us avoid the worst impacts of climate change… if done thoughtfully, it will also usher in new job opportunities, a more prosperous and sustainable economy, and a better quality of life for all.

How do we turn talk to action? One thing is certain—the status quo is not sufficient. We need new ways to collaborate, share ideas, and scale solutions across sectors and regions.

To meet the moment, we’re thrilled to present Destination Net Zero Events—a three-event series culminating in GLOBE Forum 2022, the largest and longest-running sustainability conference in North America. The events will gather Canada’s top net-zero leaders: innovators, executives, policymakers, investors, youth, global NGOs, and more. Join us for fresh insights, best practices, cutting-edge innovation, and strategic connections, so we can move farther, faster, together.

We’re embedding action and accountability into all our Destination Net Zero Events with the 10×10: 10 actions in 10 years we need to take to get to net zero. To learn more about the actions identified at our October 2021 event, check out the 10×10 Outcomes Report: Energy and Transportation Days. These outcomes will feed into the final 10×10 that is produced after GLOBE Forum 2022.

Failure is not an option when it comes to climate change. Transforming our energy and transportation systems is key to achieving a net-zero future. The world has already started transitioning, disrupting energy markets, and putting pressure on fossil fuel development. Adding to the pressure, the Government of Canada has legislated a net-zero emissions target for 2050.

Over two days, participants tackled the big questions: What is the pathway to carbon neutrality for energy and transportation in Canada? How can we ensure our country is competitive while undergoing system transformation? How do we scale clean solutions and innovation? How do we ensure the transition is just and that no one is left behind in the fight against climate change – including those whose jobs are put at risk by the transition to cleaner energy?

Topics included but were not limited to renewable energy, just and equitable transition, clean energy policies, low-carbon fuels, decarbonization, zero-emission pledges, zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs), and public transport.

Nature and the bioeconomy have the potential to both mitigate climate change and build climate resilience in Canada. Over the course of two days, participants considered how to scale natural climate solutions and the bioeconomy by exploring key questions: With a finite supply of land, how do we maximize its climate resilience, biodiversity, and productivity? How can we monetize the value of our diverse green and blue ecosystems? How can public and private partners support Indigenous leadership in nature?
