Kassie is a proud Anishnaabe Kwe from Alderville First Nation, with a passion for the protection of Shkagamik-Kwe (Mother Earth) and all of her relations. Kassie has experience working on a variety of projects from savanna and tall grass prairie restoration, monitoring and education to First Nation Engagement and Duty to Consult services. Kassie works with government agencies, environmental non-governmental organizations, and First Nations communities across Ontario to implement effective land use planning techniques that address the needs and priorities of Indigenous values. She is an active community member of Alderville First Nation, maintaining her community and cultural connections and sitting as vice treasurer of the Alderville Community Trust, a Board Member of Alderville Solar Inc., a volunteer at the Alderville Black Oak Savanna, and a member of the Alderville Lands Advisory Committee. Kassie has been the project lead on multiple and concurrent research projects. At CIPS, Kassie’s goal is to work with Indigenous and non-Indigenous people to engage in meaningful relationship building that works towards a sustainable future and includes Indigenous strategies for future generations.
