Julie Segal

Senior Manager, Climate Finance, Environmental Defence

Julie Segal leads a climate finance program at Environmental Defence, an advocacy organization where she works to change Canadian financial regulation to incentivize climate action. Segal authored a “Credible Climate Plan” report in 2022 and Canadian Senator Rosa Galvez invited her to advise on drafting a climate finance policy. Segal organized over 150 endorsements from climate experts and financial leaders to support this policy proposal, which is currently progressing through government. At her previous role with the McConnell Foundation, she allocated millions of dollars to sustainable projects, like Indigenous-owned clean energy initiatives, and directed a year-long accelerator where she helped impact fund managers scale from being startups to attracting multimillion dollar deals. Segal was a Canadian delegate to the OECD Forum selected by the Young Diplomats of Canada in 2021. Her paper won first place for the OECD and CFA’s 2021 Global Ethics and Trust in Finance competition.
