Charles Haines

Executive Director of Decarbonization of Air, Rail and Marine, Transport Canada

Charles Haines is an Executive Director at Transport Canada, focusing on efforts to decarbonize air, rail and marine transportation. He is leading work to develop a marine transportation system that can be an engine of economic growth, while accelerating the adoption of clean fuels and technologies. Before working at Transport Canada, Charles held several federal government positions that focus on environment and natural resource management, including efforts to establish an international coalition to phase out coal fired electricity, and serving as Co-Chair of the Climate and Clean Air Coalition. Prior to working in the government, Charles spent five years as an international environmental consultant based in Milan, Italy. He holds degrees in Environmental Studies—but much of his learning these days comes from trying to view the world from the eyes of his three wonderful, if rambunctious, children.
