Performing this episode for the first time to an audience of this size, Montreal’s acclaimed Porte Parole Productions brings its immersive documentary performance The Assembly – Energy in Canada to GLOBExCHANGE for a unique presentation and candid conversation about Canada’s energy transition. One city at a time, one episode at a time, The Assembly weaves together the different threads of our social fabric, creating a safe but challenging space to discuss polarizing viewpoints and ideally move toward common ground.
The Assembly started in 2017 as a long-term documentary project and has been commissioned by presenters in Canada, the US, Germany, Brazil and Lithuania. In each location, the play’s creative team sets up and records encounters in which four strangers of wildly different ideological leanings face off, and candidly confront the issues that most divide them. A script is created from the verbatim content of these recorded encounters and, on stage, actors play the four real-life characters in unique debate-like plays, specific to each location.
