A swelling human population is pressuring traditional protein sources; the proliferation of animal protein production and seafood extraction is threatening ecosystems. The hunt is on for alternative protein sources. Can we assume that our consumption of animal proteins will fall, or indeed that it should? Newer proteins require the development of novel value chains, and those working to commercialize them must address production, safety, and scalability issues. This panel will chew over the ways that traditional protein companies are evolving their approach to meat production, while new and alternative proteins are appearing on our plates.
