Victoria Smart City & Economic Prosperity Summit

Building upon the success of GLOBE Forum in Vancouver, economic development leaders in nearby Victoria invite business, investment, and project leaders to attend a one-day summit, built around three themes:

- Smart Cities – buildings, transportation, and infrastructure

- Sustainable and Clean Technologies – building materials and processes, products, and product development

- Ocean Science & Marine Technology– earthquake & tsunami early-warning sensors and detection systems, big data management, tidal energy, and marine & fisheries management

Canadian Financing Forum & Mission Innovation Clean Energy Financing Event

The Canadian Financing Forum (CFF) and GLOBE Series are teaming up with Mission Innovation (MI) – a global partnership of 22 countries and the European Union working together to accelerate global clean energy innovation – to host the first MI Clean Energy Financing Event. Global investors are invited to participate in the pitch sessions and experience a world-class technology company showcase and networking event.

CSHS/Harvard Human Capital Project Workshop

An organization’s human capital includes the skills, knowledge and abilities that workers bring to their work and how they use them. Human capital underpins corporate performance and sustainability. Effective occupational health and safety (OHS) management helps workers safely operate in their work environments, making OHS a foundational element of human capital. The growing question is whether a company wants its workers to just survive, or thrive. An increasing body of interest is being aimed at this very idea and investors, the financial markets and multi-national corporations are working together to define, measure, manage, and report on human capital.

Translating Climate Change Trends and Liabilities: A Workshop for Professionals in Risk and Strategy

Zizzo Strategy is hosting a one-day workshop that will focus on risks, opportunities and responsibilities in a changing climate. The workshop will:

- Provide an overview of the policy and market mechanisms aimed at mitigating and adapting to climate change

- Explore developing trends that may impact roles, responsibilities and expectations

- Dive into scenario analysis and its pros, cons and practicalities

- Link the above information to professional liability and corporate opportunities

The aim of the workshop is to provide professionals and senior staff with tools to integrate climate change considerations into their decision-making and increase the resiliency of their company.

Participants will leave the workshop not only with an enhanced understanding of their risks and opportunities, but also with practical strategies to address these issues within their organization.

The National Zero Waste Council, in collaboration with Smart Prosperity Institute, The Natural Step Canada, and Delphi Group, is hosting a Circular Economy Breakfast Roundtable. To mobilize the circular economy opportunities in Canada, a huge collaborative effort will be required. Framed around building a “roadmap” to advance a circular economy in Canada, the Roundtable will convene international and Canadian thought leaders and senior executives in a strategic conversation around the opportunities to advance a circular economy.

Moderated by Greg Moore, Chair, Metro Vancouver Board and Founder, National Zero Waste Council.

Microsoft Technology-Enabled Solutions Discussion & Showcase

Digital technologies, from the cloud to machine learning to AI, are enabling new breakthroughs that have the potential to increase energy and resource efficiency in every sector. But are these tools being fully leveraged? What are the barriers to adoption? And if those can be solved, what new insights and abilities can we gain and what impact can these have on climate change? These are some of the questions that will be discussed at a fireside chat with the IEA’s Laszlo Varro and Microsoft’s Michelle Patron, and explored through hands-on demonstrations of AI enabled tools at a networking session to follow. The event will be held at Microsoft’s Vancouver office, a short walk from the Conference Center.

IEEE Blockchain Workshop

Three dedicated blockchain pioneers will walk us through Bitcoin and Ethereum - contextualizing the cryptocurrencies within the larger field of decentralized protocols. Insights into the potential impacts and uses of blockchain technology in climate, engineering and technology will be explored. An overview of Bitcoin and Ethereum projects being built today, and some suggestions on how to engage just might inspire participants to get involved.
