Lars Christian Bacher

President and CEO, Statoil Canada Ltd., Canada

Lars Christian Bacher is the president of Statoil Canada. In this role, he oversees the company's oil sands operations in Alberta's Athabasca region, exploration and development off the coast of Newfoundland and the Calgary-based Heavy Oil Technology Centre.  Since his appointment as president in 2009, Statoil Canada has produced its first million barrels of oil from the Leismer Demonstration Project in northern Alberta and launched a new technology plan to help reduce carbon emissions from the oil sands by more than 40 per cent by 2025.

Prior to his current role, Mr. Bacher led the restructuring and integration of Statoil's operations in the Norwegian Continental Shelf. Since joining the company in 1991, he has held management positions at the Norne and Statfjord fields in the North Sea and served as vice-president of Gullfaks operations and leader head of the Tampen area in Norway.

Mr. Bacher graduated from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology with a Master of Science degree in Chemical Engineering. He also holds a degree in Business and Management Studies from the Norwegian School of Economics and Business.
