Shilpa is the Head of Global Sustainability and Corporate Citizenship at Manulife, a Canadian multinational insurance company and financial services provider headquartered in Toronto. In her role, Shilpa overseas a team responsible for the enterprise wide sustainability strategy and disclosures and supports ESG integration with Manulife’s credit risk team.
Shilpa began her career in Sustainability at Canadian International Development Agency’s Environment Division where she focused on developing and managing the Canadian Climate Change Fund and the Environment and Sustainable Development Program, she then moved to India to work with International Development Centre’s Reginal team to manage the Community Based Resource Management portfolio. Having a developed a keen interest in supporting private sector clients understand the social and environmental impact of their operations she led the development of impact assessments for a variety of mining, oil and gas, and infrastructure clients. Prior to her role at Manulife, Shilpa was Vice President of CSR at OMERS.
Shilpa has an undergraduate degree in Environmental Science from Queen’s University, a master’s in environmental studies from York University, and PhD in Social Anthropology from London School of Economics. She has lived and worked in Asia, Africa, Europe, and North America.
