Sustaining Sustainability: Advancing Cleantech from a Workforce Perspective

Cleantech is an industry with a trillion dollar export opportunity — but Canada is lagging behind. Despite the success of some world-class Canadian cleantech companies, Canada ranks only 16th for total market share in cleantech. Although there is an urgent need for 1,800 new jobs to be filled in the next 24 months according to a survey of Canadian cleantech employers, companies continue to experience difficulties attracting and developing workers for cleantech positions. Canada needs to ensure an adequate supply of skilled workers in cleantech so it can compete on the global stage.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Global and Canadian trends in cleantech activity
  • ECO Canada’s definitional framework for cleantech, the sector, and its workforce
  • Business and HR insights from a survey of 81 businesses active in cleantech
  • Key considerations to address labour market opportunities and challenges for the sector
