IETA’s multi-sector Forum will take stock of top-down (UNFCCC, Article 6) market rule-making activities and pilots, as well as explore some “must watch” bottom-up (national, sub-national, carbon club) trends across The Americas, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Global Aviation Sector and the Natural Climate Solutions (NCS) space.

CCS has been proven and acknowledged to be an essential technology for global climate change goals. Canada is a leading force in CCS – often sought for its expertise on the world stage. This panel will profile large-scale projects in the country and offer learnings on how they got there, why they chose CCS and the drivers that influenced their business decisions. Panelists will describe the value that is a take-away from time of inception and up to now; as well as discuss what is needed today to see mass deployment of this important technology.

Panel hosted by the European Union at GLOBE 2020
The European Commission announced its Green Deal in December 2019, to be followed by the introduction of the first “European Climate Law” by March 2020. Our ambition: to be the world’s first climate neutral continent by 2050. Key to the Green Deal will be the EU’s circular economy action plan to be announced in the spring of 2020. The circular economy plan will include a ‘sustainable products’ policy to support the circular design of all products. Also key is the Green Deal Investment Plan to attract at least one trillion euros (CAD 1.46 trillion) worth of public and private investment over the next decade.
This session will provide an overview of the Green Deal and the opportunity presented by carbon neutrality. Panelists from five European companies/organisations will share their personal and professional commitment to tackle climate change while fostering growth, innovation and competitiveness both in Europe and in Canada. Panelists will be available as of 10.15am for a coffee networking reception.
