Leading Change Forum 2024

Leading Change Forum 2024 will bring together young leaders (ages 19-35) who are ready to have tough conversations about climate and sustainability. It’ll take a diversity of perspectives to identify and implement the solutions needed to address our biggest environmental, social, and economic challenges.  Over a full day of interactive workshops, networking opportunities, and capacity building activities, Leading Change youth delegates will focus on accelerating net-positive solutions that achieve climate resiliency and restore our natural environment.

CBSR Member Roundtable: Climate Transition Plans, Reporting & Transparency (Invite-only)

This members-only roundtable will bring together Canadian leaders from across industries to discuss corporate climate actions to realize net zero goals. Climate Transition Plans (CTPs) can be a driving force behind net-zero progress and are increasingly recommended in sustainability reporting, including ISSB. Speakers include Jamie Biggar & Adam Lynes-Ford from My Climate Plan, Tom Ewart from Co-operators, and Sandra Kesseler from Loblaw Companies Limited to discuss how to create an effective CTP, and more importantly, how to use it.

Your Scope 1, My Scope 3: SMEs and Financed Emissions on the Road to Net Zero

Representing 51.9% of the Canadian gross domestic product (GDP), small and medium enterprises (SMEs) have a key role to play in the transition to a net-zero economy.

Financial institutions (including investment managers, banks, and insurers) often see a large portion of their carbon footprint represented by scope 3 financed emissions that are associated with lending to or investing in SMEs. This session will bring together both sides of the financer/provider equation to identify collaborative decarbonizing pathways that will benefit all parties.

Empowering Supply Chain Decarbonization Through Industry Collaboration

We’ve all heardteamwork makes the dream work” and achieving net zero is no exception, especially when it comes to scope 3 emissions – emissions that result from assets not owned or controlled by the reporting organization, but that the organization indirectly affects in its value chain. Join the 2024 cohort of CBSR Sustainable Procurement Fellows and program alumni to learn how industry collaborations can slash GHG emissions in your supply chain. Participants in this session will explore how to sync your organization’s goals, resources and standards with industry peers, as well as how a unified approach can better influence suppliers to make the net-zero switch.

Thriving Together: Building Resilient & Proactive Communities

In the face of ongoing and evolving climate and social justice issues, we must explore new strategies, innovations, and community-driven initiatives that enable societies to thrive, not just survive. In this session, we will examine principles and best practices for proactive community building, as well as how communities are coping, adapting, and recovering from the impacts of climate change.

Progress Over Perfection: Navigating Sustainability Realities

Now more than ever we cannot let the fear of failure or the pursuit of perfect prevent us from taking action. It’s time we shift the narrative and embrace a collective commitment to progress over perfection. Join this session and examine the pitfalls of waiting for the ‘perfect’ sustainability plan while we explore the incremental steps needed to nurture a culture of continuous improvement.

Zeroing In: Meeting Interim Targets to Net Zero Emissions and Beyond

By the end of 2024 we will be halfway to 2030 and halfway through the Decade of Action necessary to meet netzero emissions and other key sustainability goals by 2050. We need to take decisive and bold steps today to reach our targets that simultaneously deliver positive results on the pathway to net-zero. Join us for this interactive workshop where we will explore how to drive tangible results at pace, by setting, prioritizing, and meeting effective interim plans that will help your organization reach destination net zero, and beyond.

Advance: Restoring and Protecting Nature

A healthy and diverse natural ecosystem is required to support a regenerative future. Rapid biodiversity loss and the degradation of ecosystems are major drivers of climate change, which in turn further exacerbates these issues and ultimately threatens the sustainability of human society. In this interactive and outcomes-focused workshop, you’ll share the key learnings and actions needed for restoring and protecting nature.

Advance: Reaching Destination Net Zero

Reaching net zero will be a crucial step towards achieving a more regenerative future. But the journey there often feels daunting and obscure. Net zero will require the transformation of all sectors including our energy, transport, industry, agriculture, and land use systems, in tandem with unprecedented levels of cooperation and innovation. In this interactive and outcomes-focused workshop, you’ll share the key learnings and actions needed to reach Destination Net Zero.

Advance: Ensuring Water Security

As the foundation of all life, ensuring healthy and secure water systems (both fresh and salt, domestic and international) is essential to creating a regenerative future. Achieving this goal will require a cross-sector and cross-industry approach to water management, protection, and governance. In this interactive and outcomes-focused workshop, you’ll share the key learnings and actions needed for ensuring water security.
