This reception will kick-start the event and set the stage for the next three days. Delegates can mingle with exhibitors in the Innovation Expo and enjoy a fun night of live music and entertainment while connecting with friends old and new over delicious food and drinks.

GLOBE Movie Night
Let There be Light
Time: 7:00pm – 9:00pm
Location: Room 2, Meeting Room Level, Vancouver Convention Centre
The award-winning film about the race to harness fusion – often described as the holy grail of clean energy. The world’s richest countries are pooling resources to build the ITER, the most complex scientific experiment of all time. Meanwhile, private sector entrepreneurs backed by the likes of Jeff Bezos and Paul Allen are also racing to create fusion — only they want to do it much faster and cheaper. The film focuses on two brilliant scientists dedicating their lives to fusion, each taking a drastically different route, and features Vancouver fusion company General Fusion.
General Fusion’s Chief Technology Officer, Michael Delage, will give a Q&A following the film.
GLOBE After Dark: Bright Lights, Blue City

Art and Music
One of the world’s most highly respected and acclaimed nature photographers, Paul Nicklen is a Canadian filmmaker and marine biologist who has documented the beauty of our planet for over twenty years. As an assignment photographer for National Geographic, Paul’s evocative imagery has garnered over 30 of the highest awards given to any photographer in his field, including the BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year and the prestigious World Press Photo for Photojournalism. Paul recently founded Sea Legacy, a charity whose mission is to create healthy and abundant oceans.
As tribute to this year’s sub-theme around Oceans, GLOBE has curated a spectacular exhibit of some of the stunning nature photography Paul’s 4 million Instagram followers already enjoy. View these in the main concourse on the way to the Innovation Expo.

Rod Boss, Magician, performs an amazing show that leads you on an emotional roller coaster filled with an unbelievable display of interactive magic and outrageous humor. Catch Rob at the GLOBE Welcome Reception.
Jillian Lebeck, Jazz Pianist & Vocalist, is one of the most dynamic and exciting new voices to emerge on the West Coast jazz scene in recent years. Her influences are broad and diverse as she blends mainstream jazz with the sounds of the EDM, classical, and popular music, playing the Lobby of the Convention Centre.
Daniel Petersen, Jazz & Blues Guitar Wizard, is a full-time resident of Gabriola Island with two self-recorded jazz albums. His guitar musings remind listeners of the likes of John Scofield, Kevin Eubanks, and Stanley Jordan, with a silky smooth style and technically perfect execution; look for this soloist near the Information booth.
DJ Pri, Girl On Wax’s Top DJ and Music Director, is one of Vancity’s most sought-after DJs, with a TON of charisma, outgoing personality and widely respected turntable skills spinning tunes at the GLOBE Welcome Reception.
Scott Robertson Trio, Jazz Drummer Extraordinaire, plays timeless music from songwriters such as George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers, and Duke Ellington, and will be in the Lobby of the Convention Centre.
Silk Road Music, Chinese Fusion, has been smashing stereotypes about Chinese music and taking Chinese instruments in new artistic directions for decades. Its pioneering musical fusions have merged Chinese folk and classical music with Brazilian, jazz, Celtic, Spanish, Arabic, Aboriginal and blues music. Check out this unique trio in the Lobby of the Convention Centre.
DJ Colette Trudeau says, “DJing combines my two favourite things – Music and People! There isn’t anything more exhilarating to me than helping create perfect memories through music.” She’ll be making those memories at GLOBE After Dark – Social Night at the Sinclair on Thursday night.
