Sally Flis is the Director, Sustainable Ag Programs with Nutrien Ag Solutions. In this role, Sally is responsible for designing the programs that are available in the field for crops consultants to engage with farms for quantification of multiple sustainability metrics, including carbon assets for Scope 1 or Scope 3, water quality impacts, soil health, and energy use. Sally joined Nutrien Ag Solutions in January 2021 and has been working in that time with growers and crop consultants across the U.S. and Canada on the implementation of sustainability programs around carbon emissions, carbon sequestration, and improved crop production efficiency. In 2022, Sally and her team achieved verified Scope 1 offsets and Scope 3 insets on their program work in the U.S. and Canada. Today the FarmSmart Team at Nutrien Ag Solutions deploys over 2 million acres a year of programming and has impacted close to 10 million acres in the last four crop seasons. Prior to working at Nutrien Ag Solutions, Sally was the Senior Director of Agronomy at The Fertilizer Institute (TFI) in Washington D.C. While at TFI, Sally worked on the expansion of 4R Nutrient Stewardship programs in the U.S., including language in the 2018 Farm Bill to include a new high priority research area on the source, rate, timing, and placement of fertilizer nutrients. Sally is passionate about agricultural sustainability and economic sustainability of growers in the U.S. and Canada.
