David Harris Kolada

A seasoned financier, strategist and business builder, David combines a proven track record in Venture Capital investing (direct, fund & Corporate VC) with operational and domain expertise in the ICT and Cleantech sectors. With a top quartile career IRR, David has managed several hundred million dollars’ of venture investments, facilitated hundreds of financing and commercial transactions and has as part of teams raised over $6 billion in private and public equity, debt and structured finance. As an operating executive, David has hired and led high performance teams and scaled organizations en route to 100% per annum growth.

David is passionate about helping entrepreneurs achieve sustainable growth and value creation. He uniquely embraces a business development mindset grounded in operational and financial discipline. David’s priorities in life and business start with people and purpose with the conviction that great people and a clear, meaningful purpose, are prerequisites to building anything of lasting value. Through his strategic advisory services firm DHK Ventures Inc., David is currently advising private and public sector on their financing, growth, strategy and investments, including as virtual Chief Strategy Officer at IoT company Relogix and advising the Clean Technology, Innovation and Jobs Working Group at Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada. David is also a Venture Partner with Yaletown Partners, assisting with fundraising and Ontario deal flow for Yaletown’s Innovation Growth Fund. Previously, David was Vice President, Venture Capital at OpenText Corporation (Nasdaq: OTEX), where he managed the global software company’s $100 million VC portfolio and received the Global Corporate Venturing Rising Star Award. In this role, David managed investments in VC funds, funds of funds, pursued direct investment opportunities, established revenue-producing partnerships between OpenText and VC portfolio companies.

David has held several senior management positions over the course of his 25-year career, including those of Senior Vice President, Corporate Development and Chief Financial Officer at marketing SaaS pioneer Eloqua Corporation (now Oracle) and Senior Director, Strategic Investment at Cognos (now IBM). David managed the market transaction team at Sustainable Development Technology Canada, a $1 billion Cleantech fund, facilitating over 115 SDTC portfolio company market transactions valued at approximately $1 billion. Previously, David gained experience in venture capital investment management at Jefferson Partners, where as a Partner he jointly managed over $200 million of assets. David began his career as an investment banker in the U.S. on Wall Street (Lazard Frères) and in Canada (BMO Nesbitt Burns), where he developed relationships with world class.
