Lueers is a professional geologist with 28 years of oil and gas industry experience. In his over 10 years with ConocoPhillips Canada, he has also acted as senior vice president, Exploration and then senior vice president, Western Canada Business Unit. In these roles, he successfully implemented exploration and development strategies to establish new, highly-focused core areas in unconventional resource plays. Lueers also led significant business improvement initiatives to increase functional and operations excellence in addition to driving efficiencies throughout the business.
Before joining the company, he worked for predecessor company Burlington Resources, Imperial Oil (and its predecessor Texaco) and Exxon, among others.
Lueers is active with the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, serving on the Board of Governors and the Oil Sands CEO Council. He is also active with Canadian Oil Sands Initiatives Alliance (COSIA), Enform (Board of Directors), University of Alberta and University of Calgary. He earned a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in geology from the University of Alberta in 1985, following a Diploma in resource engineering technology from the Northern Alberta Institute in Technology in 1982.
