To ensure prosperity through the coming decades, leading economies will need to invest heavily in advanced and resilient infrastructure. For the private sector, the upside is enormous: Necessary global investment is projected at around US$90 trillion by 2030 (Seizing The Global Opportunity, Global Commission on the Economy and Climate, 2015).

GLOBE Capital is a new summit for leaders to discuss how to mobilize and accelerate the funding necessary to transform into a low-carbon economy. We’re bringing together private and public sector leaders to explore how we can open the floodgates of capital needed for new infrastructure. Participants will engage in candid, high-level discussions focused on the intersection of three main pillars.

Pillar #1
21st CENTURY INFRASTRUCTURE

Explore how a country can leverage its competitive advantage by leading the charge on investment in sustainable infrastructure. Hear from leading CEOs on how companies might both access the opportunities and manage the risks presented by a new low-carbon reality.

Some of the Breakout Sessions under this Pillar:

  • Best practice in strategies, policy and standards for sustainable infrastructure investment
  • Roles and responsibilities of both the public and private sectors
  • Project prioritization to ensure maximum innovation, public benefits and investment returns

Pillar #2
FINANCING & MARKETS

While lack of capital is not of concern, ensuring that projects are sustainable and investor-ready is key. Factors include lowering carbon emissions and operational costs while building collaboration among private sector players and multi-levels of government.

Some of the Breakout Sessions under this Pillar:
  • Next steps following the Financial Stability Board’s climate-related risk disclosure – integrating the recommendations into investment decisions
  • Innovative financing mechanisms that facilitate private sector participation
  • Ensuring that green banks, green bonds and carbon pricing don’t indirectly hamper project financing

Pillar #3

POLICY & INNOVATION

Uncover how start-ups can avoid the valley of death on the road to commercialization. Discuss bridging the gaps between R & D spends, existing low-carbon technology, and rolling out clean-tech at scale for new infrastructures.

Some of the Breakout Sessions under this Pillar:
  • Transforming the energy system using investment from venture capital and family trusts
  • Driving innovation towards transportation, energy distribution, intelligence and clean-tech deployment in smart cities
  • Enhancing energy efficiency to shift to low carbon building stock

GLOBE Capital 2017 will address these three pillars and other topics regarding transforming to a low-carbon economy. An invitation-only summit, space is limited at this event; we invite you to act quickly by expressing your interest in attending GLOBE Capital in Toronto, April 4-5, 2017. We will be sending out the first invitations to this event around November 15th.
